Two highly regarded experts in a battle of pros and cons about Bulgaria joining the Eurozone by 2024. Each of them stated their thesis – what Bulgaria gains in joining the Eurozone now and what risks lie ahead. Lyubomir Datzov is a well-known expert in macroeconomics, budget and banking. In the most decisive years of Bulgaria’s accession to the EU he was Deputy Minister of Finance responsible for coordination of budget policy and planning, macroeconomic and economic policies, EU matters and funds. Today he is a member of the Bulgarian Fiscal Council – responsible for the evaluation of fiscal rules, macroeconomic forecasts and the budget.
Grigor Sariiski is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Economic Research with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. His thesis was on the topic of “Risk management of bank credits for companies in Bulgaria”. He is also the author of economic research and publications in areas like banking, public finance and economic convergence. Sariiski also has practical experience in finance and publishing. At present he is conducting a detailed research to clearly outline the potential positive and negative aspects of Bulgaria’s eurozone accession.
